Sauna

Our sauna

In Finland we are 5 million people and we have around 3 million saunas. Traditionally women have even given birth in saunas. Saunas are strongly part of our culture and we are used to enjoy the heat since we are small children.

You are warmly invited to our wood heated sauna located in our countryside house, to experience life like a Finn. The sauna is a typical and traditional Finnish sauna, and the real fire will give you the warmth you need.

There is a possibility to shower and also cool down outside in our fresh but wild garden.

We will guide as needed and there is no need for having earlier sauna experience. We will provide towels. There will be as much heat as you wish as it can be regulated. Wood heated sauna is generally a very safe experience as long as you are careful not to touch the hot stove. Children need to be carefully supervised due to this reason.

Swimming clothes are recommended unless you dare to be a real Finn and bath naked.

Our sauna experience includes:
Pick up from Helsinki
Guiding as needed
Use of wood heated sauna
Shower facilities that operate only with pure well water
Towels
Berry juice sauna drinks

There are certain medical conditions or drug use when sauna is not suitable due to the heat and humidity:

  • Recent Cardiac Events: People who have had a recent heart attack, stroke, or transient ischemic attack.
  • Severe Heart Disease: Those with unstable angina (chest pain), severe aortic valve stenosis, or decompensated heart failure.
  • Acute Illness or Infection: Anyone running a fever, fighting an active infection, or feeling generally unwell.
  • Alcohol and Drug Use: Saunas should never be used while intoxicated.
  • Transdermal Patches: Saunas enhance the absorption of skin patches (e.g., nicotine, nitroglycerin), which can lead to dangerously high medication doses.

Individuals with the following conditions should always consult their healthcare provider before entering a sauna:

  • Pregnancy: High core temperatures can potentially affect fetal development, especially during the first trimester.
  • Blood Pressure Issues: Both extremely high (uncontrolled hypertension) and low blood pressure.
  • Respiratory Conditions: Uncontrolled asthma or severe chronic lung diseases (the dry air may trigger flare-ups).
  • Neurological Conditions: Conditions like epilepsy or seizure disorders.
  • Specific Medications: Drugs that impair sweating, cause drowsiness, or interfere with temperature regulation (e.g., diuretics, certain antidepressants).
